Encouraging players to stay online...

Postby Xero » July 26th, 2010, 12:15 pm

I am finally just going to make a post about this shit, because there are a lot of fucking newbs on the server lately that think they either have to constantly pump for exp, or constantly make shitty games so that they can be the highest level in the game (even tho they're gonna level in like 10 minutes and have to move up). It's getting a bit ridiculous, and it really is causing the few players that we have online lately to log off pretty quickly. Examples:

10-30 games going on at the same time someone has made a 10-20 or 10-18. If there are 7 or 8 people online, some idiot makes a 10-20 and like 3 or 4 people go to it. The rest of the players don't have a char that small and eventually log off because the game is so small. I hate with so few players how people make games specifically to exclude other players from playing so that they can be the "best" person in the game, which is basically the equivalent of being the best retard at the special olympics. I figured since exp was already jacked up so high, people ruining the game for others to try and cut corners and make it even faster is a little fucked up. I see this scenario happen almost on a daily basis.

My suggestion here would be that if possible, we just flat out remove the 10-18 and 10-20 game options, and basically just have 3 broad ranges for games. 1-5, 5-15, and 10-30. There is really no point to have anything other than that unless we get to a point of having 30+ people online at any given time, which may or may not even happen. Until then, there's no reason to let these idiots ruin the game when there are a few people online that want to play.

A lot of times this is also done for pumping reasons, which is just as bad if not worse. My suggestion here would be that once the private games are made available, can we change it so that exp isn't given with less than 4 people in a game? This will at least discourage pumping a little bit, for the same reasons mentioned above about having bigger games when we actually do have people online. I was just online with 4 players and I joined a 10-30 with 3 people in it. Once i went in, 2 of them left and made another game, leaving me and one other guy to play. I followed them to ask them wtf their problem was, and when I entered the new game they just made they left again and did the same thing. Eventually told me they wanted to pump etc and acted like there was no problem with it. I don't really give 2 shits about the exp aspect, if people are that terrible and can't get exp normally then that's fine. I just hate to log in when the game is barely playable due to low numbers and have it ruined by 1 or 2 idiots that don't understand common sense.

I just think some adjustments need to be made with game selections/exp to encourage larger games, which will keep people playing longer once they actually log in.

Thanks,

Qurik

You can make just as much exp in a 10-30 as a 10-20 as a 15-20... of course it is a bit more difficult.

A good idea to remove 10-18 and 10-20.

I like the ones lately that will make two games to pump in. For example, they will make two 10-30's. If someone joins the one they are in they will leave to the other so they don't die or have to fight at all. Back and forth.

definately gets my vote, remove these stupid games, i regularly log on to find a 10-18 or 10-20 and when i have 6 30s and a lvl 4 it dont help, I will even take it easy if there are only low lvls in a 10-30 to help them out a bit. get rid of these lvls!! :D

From what I have seen, the available arena levels are hardcoded - so they would be fairly difficult to remove (without the source). But I would wager that you could alter the "10-18" into a "10-30" which would eliminate the "10-18" and give 2 options of "10-30", etc.

In addition, just thought of one more thing I'd like to see on the "wish list"...

Any chance we can get 1 thing added and 1 thing working properly? :)

The Server Name is always Green on the opening screen before we click "Play", whether the server is up or down. It's been up almost non stop lately so this hasn't really been an issue, but when it was up and down while it was being updated this would've been nice to have working.

Also, any chance on that screen we can somehow implement a "refreshable" button that will show you how many players are currently connected to the client? That'd save me so much time from logging in to tavern to see if anyone is on :P

Haha.

I havn't played recently for 2 reasons...
1) couple of other "quick match" games have been entertaining me
2) the last 2 weeks i played steadily, it seemed like every game was ruined due to FH/Para clerics.

I'm not one of the people that would say "Remove FH from the game, it ruins it", but whenever u have like 6-10 players in a match and ONE FH cleric joins (who also paras), it just straight up ruins it for whoever dosn't have that cleric. When there were full matches way back when, you'd usually end up with 1-2 of them on each team, because not everyone had a 30 and because it really only takes 1-2 to keep up with the whole team. Also, wish the 100fatigue to cast para was back.
